(Also) Focus on the Olympics

As is well known, in September 2026 a decision will be made on who will represent Germany in the race to host the Summer Olympics in 2036, 2040, or 2044 at the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Possible candidates are Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, and CologneRhineRuhr – consisting of 17 cities from across the Rhine-Ruhr region with Cologne as the leading city.

On April 19, 2026, the population of the 17 municipalities where the major event would take place on the Rhine and Ruhr will be called upon to vote on whether they support a bid by CologneRhineRuhr. At the YONEX German Open 2026, spectators were able to find out more about the initiative at an information stand.
