Matthias Kicklitz gave his all in the “Match of the Day,” but despite the support of the fans, it wasn’t enough against Chinese favorite Weng Hong Yang. With a score of 15:21, 12:21, the German champion was eliminated as the last German representative at the YONEX German Open.
Matthias was not entirely satisfied, even though he fought for every ball until the end and showed the fans several spectacular dives, among other things: “It wasn’t a bad game, but I had hoped for a little more.”
In the end, Weng Hong Yang scored too often with his feint-rich playing style, so that a surprise for Matthias Kicklitz was ultimately out of the question.
In the subsequent interview, he expressed his delight at the fans at the home game in the Westenergie Sports Hall: “The support was cool. Playing in front of your own crowd and having the whole audience behind you is awesome.”
Thursday’s “Match of the Day” was presented by KGM.
