Many seeded players lost

In the round of 16 on Thursday (February 26, 2026), more seeded players were eliminated from the YONEX German Open.

In Men’s Singles f. ex., Lu Guang Zu from China (seeded 7) lost in straight sets to the 2023 tournament winner, Ng Ka Long Angus (Hong Kong).

In the women’s competition, Thailand’s Busan Ongbamrungphan (seeded 6) was defeated in two sets by Kaloyana Nalbantova from Bulgaria, who plays for 1. BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim (BCB) in the 1st Bundesliga.

Meanwhile, BCB athletes Julien Maio/Willam Villeger from France defeated the top-seeded Men’s Doubles pair Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik from Malaysia, who have already won two bronze medals at the Olympic Games, in two sets.

In Mixed Doubles, the second-seeded Chinese pair Guo Xin Wa/Chen Fang Hui lost in two rounds to the Scottish pair Alexander Dunn/Julie MacPherson, and Ye Hong Wei/Nicole Gonzales Chan (Taiwan; seeded 6th) lost in three sets to their compatriots Yang Po-Hsuan/Hu Ling Fang. Julie MacPherson also plays regularly in Germany: she is a member of the first division team of the reigning German team champions SV Fun-Ball Dortelweil.
